Today was a great last day of school! Today we jumped in bouncy houses that were provided by Jake's Jumpers. They were a blast! I even went down the 27 foot slide with the kids! In the afternoon we enjoyed an ice cream treat, as well as water games with 2nd and 3rd grade. The water games consisted of water balloon toss and the boot race. For the boot race, the students split into two teams. The teams had to fill their boot with water and transport the water with their foot, to another bucket. The team with the most water in their bucket at the end was the winner! It was a lot of fun! I saw a lot of smiles and laughs today. The students really did make a lot of memories today! Have a fantastic summer everyone! I look forward to what is in store next year!

Our school year is coming to a close fast. These last few weeks we have been doing a lot of different activities that are helping us to end our school year on a fun and positive note. Our last chapter in social studies talked about the Rocky Mountians. Instead of taking a test, the students learned how to make a pyramid foldable. On this pyramid, they had to talk about important topics they took out of each lesson. Along with sharing me what they learned, they also incorporated a picture to go along with their information. Check them out! I am so proud of all of their hard work. To end our school year in Language Arts, the students worked in partners to create a game for a specific unit. We also made board games in math as well. They all worked so hard on these! This gave them an opportunity to share their knowledge of specific units from throughout the school year. They had a blast with these games and we all enjoyed playing them. Check out their hard work on their games. Today we had Principal of the day! Thank you to Owen and Alayna Deprez for such an exciting afternoon. They put together a wiffle ball tournament for grades four through six. We had such nice weather and it was great to see the different grades work hard together, while having fun! Fourth grade has been working hard on a book talk the last month. Each student choose a book to read and then talk about to the class. Each student either made a poster or a google slide to go along with their presentation. They all did a wonderful job with their book talks.
Today for math we reviewed some of out major concepts we learn in fourth grade. We did an outdoor scavenger hunt, where the students had to find objects that went with certain clues. We had a lot of fun doing our math outside in this beautiful weather. Fourth grade is officially counting down the days of school. Each morning we have been popping a balloon that has a surprise inside. Students earn the surprise by staying on task and respectful each and every day. If they misbehave one day, the next day they do not get to participate. It has been working out so far, we are really enjoying this special time at the end of the school year. Today we got to enjoy reading outside! Fourth grade has been enjoying this nice spring weather we have been having! This week in gym we practiced throwing Frisbees. We played a game called "Four-way Frisbee". The students worked in teams to pass their frisbee into another persons goal. The object of the game was to score by passing the frisbee, and by not letting it touch the ground. It was a fun and challenging game of teamwork and strategy.
This week we also learned how to use an encyclopedia. To master our skills we did a scavenger hunt using the encyclopedias. it was a lot of fun! Fourth grade as just finished our unit 8 in math. It focused on geometry. To review for our test, we played a review game called Zap. If the students got a question correct, they had to roll a dice on the Smartboard and pick the corresponding card. The cards were either positive or negative to your team, it was a game of luck! We really enjoyed this new game. This was a busy week in fourth grade! We had many visitors here teaching us about new things. On Thursday we had an author by the name of Loralee Pearson come and take to us about her books. She also talked to us about her process in writing a book and where her inspiration comes from. Her presentation was very informative! Hopefully one day, we can all publish a book of our own! On Friday we learned a new gym game. This game is called Keeper of the Castle. The object of the game is to try and get as many objects into your home base as you can, before the time runs out. We had such beautiful weather for gym and all really worked hard today. We also practiced how to throw a Frisbee. We will need to know how to throw one for our gym class next week! This afternoon we had visitors from the American Red Cross. They came to talk to us about how to prepare for disasters. They also learned that you should have a pillowcase full of materials and items that are needed in case of a disaster, ready at all times. You never know when a disaster will strike and it is important to be prepared. The students really learned a lot from this presentation, I hope they share what they have learned with you. At the end of the presentation they each got to decorate a pillowcase to take home with them! Today fourth grade took a field trip with third and fifth grade to 1000 Islands Nature Center. There we learned how to use a compass, build a fire, and build a proper shelter in the wilderness. We spent our day exploring the outdoors and hiking the trails around the nature center! We also cooked our own hot dog lunch over a fire. It was a very fun-filled day in this beautiful weather! Take a look at our time at the nature center!
We are continuing to measure angles and learning about types of triangles. To reinforce this concept, the fourth graders made neighborhoods. They had to include parallel streets, as well as intersecting streets. When they were done making their streets, they then measured their angles of where the streets meet. Check out their great work! Fourth grade has just begun there last math unit of the year! In unit eight we will learning all about geometry, how to use protractors, how to find missing angles, and so much more. We have just started to learn how to find measurements by using protractors. Last week we practiced using our protractors to find measurements. The students had to first practice finding the degrees of each angle, using their protractor. When they were finished they got to check the answers using the iPad and qr codes. I hope everyone has a happy Easter! Fourth grade is having a wonderful Holy Thursday. This morning we got to perform the Last Supper play at mass. We all did such a wonderful job! I am very proud of all of them. After mass we had a little fun in math. Today we spent our time reviewing the concepts we have learned with fractions and decimals. To review, we had an egg hunt around the school! In each egg the students had a math problem, as well as a little treat. They had to each find 10 eggs and they did a great job working as a team to make sure they found them all! After they found all the eggs, they came back to the classroom to solve their math problems! Fourth grade has also been working on writing about a Saint of their choice. They are writing "A day in the life of..." photo journals on their saints. They are really enjoying this project and cannot wait to see the final pieces. We had a great Holy Thursday and hope everyone else did as well!
Today we had a fun filled Friday in fourth grade! In math we are currently learning about fractions and decimals. This week we have been learning a new concept of changing fractions into decimals. To help us strengthen our understanding of this concept we have been working in new center activities. Today we played fraction battleship, fraction and decimal memory match, and fraction racko, where they later had to practice turning those fractions into decimals. We are really beginning to understand this concept. I am really proud of all of their hard work in math and in their other daily work! Today in gym class we played castle ball with the third grade! The object of the game was to knock down the other teams castles, before the other team knocks down yours. It was a lot of fun and the students really enjoyed themselves! |
