We did a lot of activities that were related to Halloween last week! We made story element pumpkins in reading. In reading we are currently reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle. We focused on story elements such as, theme, setting, plot, and characters. We focused on a different story element each day, writing about each of them on our pumpkins.
In writing we are currently in the middle of a poetry unit. This week however, we took a little break from poetry for a day to do a fun writing activity. The fourth grade students wrote about their night in a haunted house. They wrote creatively about their night in a haunted house and then decorated the outside. They had a lot of fun with this writing project.
On Halloween we took some time out of our day to play some fun games with our third grade friends! WE had a lot of fun playing silly games and getting some time out of the classroom. We thank third grade for letting us join in on their fun games! As a class, we also carved a pumpkin! The students voted as a class and they decided to carve a squirrel into their pumpkin. They did a really great job carving and had fun doing it as well!
In math we are currently working hard on our 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Last week we did our multiplication using the turtlehead method. They really enjoyed doing this and it helped them to better understand how to do this concept we have been working so hard on. Mr. B also came and taught us some other fun ways as well! Thank you Mr. B!
In our Wisconsin unit we have been talking about trading posts and how people traded goods in the past. For a project the students were asked to design their own trading post. They wrote about their trading posts in class and at home they created their trading post. They all did such a wonderful job and I can tell they worked really hard on them!
